Jax is the protagonist in ELEX. He has a brother, Kallax and a father, Wardek.

Description[edit | edit source]

Jax is the player character. Originally a member of the Albs, he finds himself shot down and forced to roam the world of Magalan.

Missions[edit | edit source]

Every mission involves Jax.

Cold[edit | edit source]

Cold is a unique attribute that reflects your dialogue options, mission decisions and consumption of Elex throughout the game. Basically a personality rating, a lower value means you are more emotional or instinctive while a higher value means you are more logical or cold-hearted. It is not to be confused with a Good versus Evil or Karma system as Jax can decrease Cold by choosing emotional options like insulting and threatening others.

Certain dialogue options depend on your level of Cold and may be otherwise unavailable. While it may not have significant impact in the beginning, it becomes more important later in the game and can greatly affect the ending routes. Depending on your character build, certain Personality Abilities may be a good investment:

  • Emotional: Bonus to magic, PSI, and stim duration when Cold is below 20.
  • Balanced: 20% bonus to melee damage when Cold is between 40-60.
  • Synthetic: 20% bonus to ranged damage when Cold is above 80.

Increasing Cold[edit | edit source]

Cold can be increased by making logical and callous decisions as well as consuming Elex. There are more opportunities for Cold increases, but the increase is usually of a lesser amount than decreases. Elex Drinks, for instance, only offer a 0.1 increase in Cold thus requiring 10 for a 1 point increase. Gaining 90 Cold earns you the Coldhearted Achievement.

Decreasing Cold[edit | edit source]

Cold can be decreased by making emotional and sympathetic decisions. There are less opportunities for Cold decreases, but the decrease is of a greater amount than the increases.

At each increased level, the required experience adds up to 500 experience points.

  • [1][2][3] As of patch 1.1, there is a bug that will force your cold rating to Purely Emotional if you are rated at 69, 79, or 89. As such, beware the Balanced and Synthetic skills until it is fixed.
